Pastor Bill Ligon Longing for the Bridegroom
"A Call to Fast"
Jesus said in Matthew 9:15, ”The days will come when
the Bridegroom shall be taken from them (the children of God),
and then shall they fast.” That describes a spiritual and
emotional intimacy between Jesus and Christians where we,
the Christians, long for fellowship with our Bridegroom Jesus Christ.
The appropriate response to His physical absence is to have times when
our hearts long so much for intimate communion with Him that the
desire to be with Him is stronger than the desire to eat or engage in
other busy activities.
The fast you choose for the next 21 days should go beyond your
choices to abstain from certain foods. It should include reducing the
influence of movies, television, internet, video games and online social
networking. Use your time to read the Bible. Then use what you read in
the Bible to help guide you in prayer.
Your Prayer Goals
1. Pray for souls to be saved this year with a great awakening for
Coastal Georgia and the Nation.
2. Pray for the hearts of the fathers to turn to the children and the
children their fathers.
3. Pray for marriages to be strengthened and homes to be filled with
the joy of the Lord.
4. Pray for personal cleansing from pride, materialism and sexual
impurity for the church, area and nation.
5. Pray for President Obama and national leaders to become like
Abraham Lincoln and release an Emancipation Proclamation to
deliver the unborn babies from murder in the womb.
6. Pray that all the church family will experience health and prosperity
in 2012.
7. Pray for an Elijah generation in the church to receive a double
portion of the gifts, fruit and wisdom of the Holy Spirit.
8. Set some personal goals to believe God for in your fast.
Guideline for Fasting
1. Ask the Lord to set the type of fast you are to observe.
2. Set aside time daily during the fast to read the Bible and pray.
3. Spend time each day praying in the Holy Spirit.
4. Establish targets (visions) for your fast.
5. If you break your fast do not accept condemnation, go back to your original plan of fasting.
6. The Devil will try to tempt you to stop. Do not listen to his voice.
Only listen to the Holy Spirit.
7. If you have special medical needs, follow the advise of your physician.
Have a great journey renewing your love with Jesus.
Blessings,
Pastor Bill
